It is a day fans knew was coming but will never be prepared for, Luke Perry’s final Riverdale episode is slated to air this week.
Less than two months after the actor’s shocking death, fans will mourn the loss of him in another way. The final Riverdale episode featuring Perry as Fred Andrews will air in just two days and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa suggests viewers be prepared to tear up.
“This week’s #Riverdale is the last episode Luke filmed. As always, Fred’s imparting words of wisdom to Archie. A beautiful, true moment between a father and his son,” Tweeted Aguirre-Sacasa as a way of letting Perry’s beloved fans know it will be the last time they can catch him as Fred Andrews, well in unaired episodes anyway.

The showrunner went on to express how he felt about Perry’s last episode.
“Wish these scenes could go on forever,” he shared.
Although Aguirre-Sacasa let fans know this week will be Perry’s last Riverdale appearance, he did not indicate if fans will learn what happens to Fred. The writers and producers have been tasked with figuring out how to tactfully deal with the actor’s real-life death on screen.
Perry is and will forever be a fan favorite in the role. Therefore, recasting seems unlikely. However, due to storyline issues, as well as to continue to develop the character of Archie Andrews, Fred’s son, recasting may be unavoidable.
“You know, honestly, we are I think all still in shock and are all still processing and grieving. We know that we have to address it in some way, but we’re giving ourselves a little bit of time and space before we figure out the best way to honor him,” the showrunner has expressed previously regarding the difficulty of dealing with Perry’s death.

Life in Riverdale will never be the same, regardless of what happens to Fred Andrews on screen. After Luke Perry’s final Riverdale episode airs this week, the show will forever be changed, and its heart will be gone.
